  • Marco Brandizi has implemented his PhD ideas about the management of microarray-related knowledge based on makna. There is a showcase as well as a presentation explaining the ideas of his PhD thesis.
  • Check out the MultiMakna demo! How would Makna be if it were extended to support semantic multimedia? Check out the mock-up of MultiMakna.

Welcome to the semantic wiki engine Makna!

This is a demo instance of Makna, an Wiki-Clone that has been extended for Semantic-Web functionality. It helps you to create a semantic web while you are creating a WikiWikiWeb. Some information about Makna itself can be found on the About-Page.

The purpose of this demo is to demonstrate the semantic web features. That's why most of the text and images have been copied from public domain sources (e.g. wikipedia). Feel free to add a page.

Browsing the demo

If you want to get an impression about what Makna does, you could start browsing at

Humphrey Bogart, Liz Taylor or PiaLindstroem RudiKowalski, the homepage of an non-artist or Pal, a nice dog

or basically on any page; they all should have semantic relations to the other pages. Feel free to add any senseful statement you like.

Searching the demo

Or try a semantic search!

There are a couple of "use-case-style" search functions which should make it pretty easy to search:

Some suggestions:

  • Search for all Actors (easy)
  • Search for all Persons that have the surname "Kowalski" (medium)
  • Search for all animals that played together with Elizabeth Taylor in movies (a bit harder)

Better: Add a page by yourself

Some hints:

  • You can use the predicate assistant, which can found on the "edit-page" to find suitable predicates.
  • Have a look at the syntax of some other pages, or read more in MaknaSyntax
  • You can also specify and delete non-textual statements with the Add/Delete-Statement-Forms

About this demo

The demo is mainly about Movies and Actors. It is possible to configure SemWiki with any ontology in RDFS and OWL. This demo-instance has four small-size ontologies configured. More information can be found in About. An export of the semantic is also available, have a look at SemwebExport
